THE SUPERIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PRESENTS THE
SUPERIOR HOME AND BUILDING TOUR
JANUARY 26TH AND 27TH, 2019
Enjoy a totally “eclectic” Home and Building Tour. Unlike others, Superior has old, new and everything in between. You’ll see amazing renovations of homes & buildings that most people would bulldoze. Not in Superior. We can renovate just about anything, often using recycled and repurposed materials. How about a gymnasium floor from an old high school, now beautifully laid in a home totally redone with an artist’s touch? This home includes metal roofing moved from old buildings and gorgeous used cabinets in the kitchen, trimmed with copper. The old red brick High School, circa 1926, in all its splendor, will be on the tour this year. Now a private home, with several guest suites and a gymnasium, it is a must see. The magnificent Magma Hotel, Circa 1912, has been totally renovated after being vacant and in very poor shape for many years. It is now on the National Historic Registry and ready for showing. Another show stopper is “Element 29” (copper), originally built as La Olla Auto Court in the 40’s and commonly known as The Rock Motel. It fell in a state of disrepair and attracted a number of unwanted “elements”. Today, beautifully redone as furnished apartments, it is a stop you won’t want to miss.
Along with the Home and Building Tour, the annual Antique Show is staged at the Magma Club, circa 1915. The collections of quality antiques will take you down memory lane and beg you to take them home. Enjoy wine and cheese, along with live music, as you wander through the show. Warm up with a mid morning guided hike to the old Queen Creek tunnel on Saturday. During the weekend the famous Mata Ortiz potters will be crafting and selling their exquisite wares. Weather permitting, they will fire the pots in an amazing primitive fashion that makes this pottery magnificent. Wyatt Earp, a descendent of the legendary Wyatt Earp, will perform “Doc Holliday, the Story Hollywood Never Told”. Steve Germick, with the Tonto National Forest, will share stories about Mattie Earp, Wyatt’s common law wife, who is buried in Superior.
The quaint little Town of Superior is tucked in between Picket Post Mountain and the Apache Leap Mountain on US Hwy 60, just 30 minutes East of Apache Junction. It’s a beautiful drive, surrounded by the Tonto National Forest. Join us as we “Rebuild Superior” into the Town it deserves to be. The Tour begins at the Chamber of Commerce, 165 W. Main St., Superior.
Bonus: Each ticket holder will receive a 2 for 1 pass to the Renaissance Festival and the World renown Boyce Thompson Arboretum, to be used at a later date. Tickets, good for both days, are $15 ($13 prepaid online – note that prepaid discount ends on Jan. 25, 2019, 5 pm). Contact the Superior Chamber of Commerce for more information. 520-689-0200
